Back End Developer

About Us

We're PrintNinja, a printing company operating out of Evanston, IL. We're looking for a Back End Developer who gets excited about clean architecture and can help us navigate the complexities of modern web development. We're a collection of friendly dweebs who have obsessive interests: books, comics, tabletop games, etc. etc. If you are also a friendly dweeb we’d love to hear from you.

What You'll Do

• Architect, maintain (and help us modernize) our core PHP web apps
• Lead integration efforts between various platforms and APIs
• Help us update our stack (while keeping things stable)
• Contribute to major technical decisions and group problem-solving
• Build solutions that can make our print operations run smoothly

What We're Looking For

• A decent understanding of PHP
• Experience with React/other modern front-end frameworks
• API wranglin’, someone who can make different systems play nice together
• Problem solver who enjoys untangling complex technical challenges
• Someone who values clean code and sensible architecture
• Explain complex concepts as cleanly as possible
• Be cool with everyone else on the team

Required Technical Skills

• Modern JavaScript (ES6+) and React
• Familiarity with PHP, some experience with legacy frameworks.
• Database design and optimization
• RESTful API design and implementation
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines

Bonus Points For

• Experience with print industry software!
• DevOps experience
• Contributing to open-source projects
• Having an atypical hobby

Company Description

PrintNinja is a small but dedicated team committed to excellent service exemplified by our sterling reputation. We've been providing printing services to self-publishers and small businesses since 2009 and specialize in books and card games with a focus on product categories like comic books, graphic novels, and children's books. The best part of our job is helping those customers bring a dream project to life. We take the hard work out of brokering print from overseas and bringing it to the US for our customers so they can get back to doing what they do best; creating.
