Are you an experienced building Maintenance Supervisor (union title: Chief Engineer) looking for an opportunity to work for a good, stable company with union salary and benefits? The maintenance supervisor helps us achieve that vision by overseeing a maintenance team for a 196-unit apartment complex to ensure the property is maintained to a level that people are proud to call home.

This position requires the supervisor to be very hands-on and work with his team to oversee that work orders and make readies are completed correctly and efficiently. He/she must be available to be on call for emergency work orders on nights and weekends. The supervisor works with the property manager to establish on-call schedules, train maintenance staff, make hiring and staff improvement decisions, and implement a plan for preventive maintenance and for a safe environment.

This position requires that the candidate be able to speak English & Spanish and also requires evening and weekend work as dictated by the on-call rotation schedule or as a result of emergencies or special projects. Travel is required to purchase emergency supplies when needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years maintenance experience in apartment buildings.
  • 3 years team leading experience required.
  • Certificate of SEIU Training Program completion preferred. Must maintain union certifications as required by the position and the bargaining agreement.
  • Must have or be able to obtain UPCS Inspections Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic computer skills including MS Office software (Outlook, Excel & Word) preferred.
  • Highly organized, able to multitask, and self-motivated.
  • Able to work with lawn machinery and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and refurbishing.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to inspire, motivate, and lead staff.
  • Possess and maintain good safety habits.
  • Willing to perform any task that is required (i.e. janitorial, gardening, etc.).
  • Familiar with HVAC systems and various appliances.
  • Personable and trustworthy.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • May be required to live on-site.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Confident, positive attitude.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is required.
  • Provide own hand tools.
  • Vehicle, insurance, and good driving record.
