Cenveo, a world leader in the management and distribution of print and related offerings, is seeking an experienced General Manager with print knowledge for its Chicago, IL envelope manufacturing facility.

A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required, and we will consider experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, with an emphasis on Manufacturing, Industrial Management, or similar preferred.

The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in a production environment in a leadership role. This candidate will have excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills to effectively lead in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Job Summary

The General Manager provides hands-on leadership and management as well as responsibility for the manufacturing operations while ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and profitability commitments are met or exceeded. They must provide strategic vision and implementation drive to manage all business functions at their respective location.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)

  • Manage/direct multiple functions and/or projects to achieve production goals and efficiency measurements.
  • Coordinate with department supervisors regarding manufacturing operations to meet objectives and control labor costs.
  • Ensure compliance with all government regulations and corporate policies.
  • Interface with customers and vendors as needed.
  • Provide strategic direction for the organization and be accountable for the business function(s) results.
  • Address complex issues swiftly and effectively.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive working environment.
  • Provide leadership for problem resolution to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relationships.
  • Consistently exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Develop and maintain quality systems and controls to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Direct the efforts of department managers/supervisors to enforce the consistent application of policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Establish challenging targets for improvement in safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Manage quality, cost reduction, complete and on-time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, and performance metrics.
  • Monitor and communicate safety and quality programs and assure compliance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets, review results, and implement changes necessary to meet budget guidelines.
  • Position has authority to formulate, affect, interpret, or implement management policies or operating practices (may have review/approval from a higher level).
  • Position performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree, even if position's assignments are related to the operation of a particular segment of the business.
  • Position carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business.
  • Position is involved in planning long or short-term business objectives.
  • Position investigates and resolves matters of significance on behalf of management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent exposure to manufacturing environment with one or more unpleasant or hazardous conditions including but not limited to exposure to dust, dirt, high noise levels, chemicals, etc.
  • Regularly required to hear, speak, be articulate, and sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, grasp, reach, carry, lift, and use manual dexterity.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or other related area.
  • 10 years of relevant professional work experience, which includes at least 7 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Requires advanced technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines/processes.
  • Strong leadership and management skills to enable the creation of a highly capable and sustainable Manufacturing and Operations Function.
  • Action-oriented and innovative in leading the Manufacturing and Operations Function.
  • Demonstrated ability to think ahead and plan for a 3-6 month time span.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, develop, and mentor high-performance teams to get results through others.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, write complex reports, detailed business correspondence, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to give effective presentations to management, employees, customers, and large groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Commitment to high-quality standards, customer satisfaction, and promoting a safe work environment.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma is preferred, but not required.
