Junior IT Systems Engineer

Advanced Intelligence Engineering is a Managed IT Services Provider in Wheaton, IL. AIE services the SMB marketplace in Chicago and the suburbs, providing cutting-edge technology support and solutions. The Junior IT Systems Engineer will support client environments, focusing on system administration, security, and cloud technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Network Monitoring:
    • Monitor client networks to ensure performance and security
    • Troubleshoot network issues such as connectivity, latency, and other performance-related problems
    • Support network configurations and minor updates
  2. Server and Workstation Administration:
    • Manage and maintain servers, workstations, and other IT infrastructure
    • Assist with installing and configuring operating systems, software, and hardware
    • Perform routine maintenance, such as system updates and patches
    • Administer virtualized environments including VMware, Proxmox, and Hyper-V
  3. Cloud and Security Management:
    • Deploy and manage Microsoft 365, Azure AD, and Intune environments
    • Implement security best practices, including patch management, endpoint protection, and compliance policies
    • Assist with managing firewalls, antivirus, and other security software
    • Ensure compliance with security protocols and assist with detecting and mitigating security threats
  4. Backup Management:
    • Ensure proper backup processes are in place and functioning
    • Verify and restore backup data when necessary
    • Troubleshoot backup-related issues
  5. Client Support and Troubleshooting:
    • Provide technical support to clients via phone, email, or remote access
    • Troubleshoot and resolve user issues related to hardware, software, and connectivity
    • Support end-users with new hardware setups or software installations
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Document all work performed, including system configurations, network setups, and troubleshooting steps
    • Update internal documentation, including knowledge base articles for recurring issues
    • Provide regular reports to senior staff about system performance, outages, or ongoing support tickets
  7. IT Infrastructure Projects:
    • Assist with setting up new systems, applications, or networks for clients
    • Help with hardware installations or upgrades for client environments
    • Develop best practices and standards for client systems
    • Collaborate on projects such as system migrations or cloud transitions under senior engineers’ guidance
    • Work with the sales team to scope and present projects and network assessments for both new sales and existing clients

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum 3+ years of experience in IT systems engineering, preferably at least 2 years at an MSP
  2. Experience managing and supporting Microsoft technologies, including Azure, Microsoft 365, Intune, and SharePoint
  3. Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware, Proxmox, and Hyper-V
  4. Security-driven mindset with experience implementing security best practices
  5. Possess one or more certifications: Microsoft certifications (MCP, Azure Fundamentals, MS-900, AZ-104), Security+, Network+, or equivalent
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues simply
  7. Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills, with the ability to take ownership of problems
  8. Strong attention to detail and planning capabilities
